June Midweek Stableford – 25th June There was exceptional scoring from the top two in the June Midweek Stableford played last week with both players scoring 43 points. After countback, it was Mark Wigmore who took first place with Martin Hassall finishing second.
Club Championship – 29th & 30th June Morris motors to first Championship win A record 106 players entered this year’s Club Championship which was played on a pristine Hartley Wintney in beautiful summer conditions. Saturday’s scoring was as hot as the weather with Matt Pattison (9 h’cp) and Jack Davis (20 h’cp) leading the field with amazing nett 64’s, Lee Wilson followed on net 65 with Tom Winder one shot further back on net 66. In the scratch competition Jamie Mullin lead the field with a level par 71, Jamie was one shot ahead of Keith Morris on 72 and two ahead of Martin Hassall and Matt Paterson on 73. Sunday saw a drop in temperature but the competition proved to be equally as hot as the previous day. In the handicap competition the early pace was set by Luke Hicks who followed his first round nett 73 with an excellent nett 67. This turned out to be the joint lowest nett score of the day and elevated Luke up into third place. In second place with a superb 36 hole total of nett 137 was Keith Morris, but out in front by a clear six shots with a fantastic nett total of 131, and winning his first Major competition since joining the club, was Matt Pattison. The Club Championship turned into a much tighter affair with just two shots separating the top three players. Overnight leader Jamie Mullin’s hopes were dashed when finding trouble on the testing 16th hole to finish on 151. Matt Pattison finished in third place shooting a second round 76 for a total of 149, and pulling himself back into contention with a 72 after a disappointing first round of 76 for a total of 148 was last year’s Champion Ian Callaway. But it was 2013 Men’s Captain Keith Morris who had the luxury of a chip and two putts at the last hole for an emotional 75 and a two round total of 147 to take first place and become Hartley Wintney’s Club Champion for 2019. There were 24 two’s recorded with each two worth £8.75. |
