Greetings from Martin Smith
Hartley Wintney Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

You may remember me singing the praises of our new indoor teaching and fitting studio in last week's newsletter. You are not going to believe what happened next! After a busy morning teaching last Saturday, myself and two golfing friends decided we would play nine holes at Turnberry and then nine holes at 2012 Ryder Cup venue Medinah.

Turnberry all went well, but then we moved on to Medinah with its tree lined fairways and many water hazards. My two playing partners both had a bit of tree trouble on the first and failed to score any points. I made a nice solid par for two points to take the honour at the tricky par three second hole over water.

A sweetly hit seven iron to a back left pin and in it went for a hole in one. The rest is history. I have to say that an indoor hole in one gave me just as much pleasure as a normal hole in one and the great thing is you can see the ball go in the hole and relive it over and over again.

October Monthly Stableford

84 competitors entered the October monthly stableford last Saturday. Congratulations to Andy Morgan on winning the competition with 40 pts. Runner up prize was won by Benjamin Cornwell with 39 points. Countback was needed to separate a group of three players for third place, Stephen Doyle was declared third.

October Midweek Nine Hole Stableford

The October nine hole stableford was played on Tuesday, 14th October. Luke Hicks proved to be the man of the moment scoring a very impressive 23 points to win the competition. John Kerby finished in second place with 21 points

October Seniors Stableford

Once again there was a good entry for the Seniors monthly stableford with 44 players taking part. Well done to Simon Williams scoring a winning score of thirty seven points. Runner up spot needed to be decided with the countback system after Peter Fairman, Terry Tinder and Mike Palmer all tied on 36 points. Peter Fairman was awarded runner up spot and Terry Trinder took third place.

Ladies Daily Mail Foursomes

The Ladies played their Daily Mail Foursomes competition over Saturday, 11th and Wednesday, 15th October. 17 pairs took part in the competition. Congratulations to the winning pair of Pat Stow and Pam Large who won on countback from Niki Orchard and Heather Rimmer after both pairs had scored nett 79.

Srixon AD333 golf balls

Some of you may be sceptical about using a yellow ball but with the fading light at this time of year causing us problems, they're certainly worth a try - and Srixon's AD333 in Tour Yellow offers superb visual performance...

PING G30 irons

They've been in the shop a while now and look just as appealing as when they first arrived. But, are they for you? Watch the video and speak to us if you're in the market for new bats. If not the G30, we can talk you through other sets in PING's range and help you with a fitting...
