Hartley Wintney Pro-Am

This year's Hartley Wintney Pro-Am will surely go down as one of the best in recent times, with the course in beautiful condition, an excellent field, superb hospitality/food and lovely weather albeit a little windy, the ingredients were there to have a great day. And the players did not disappoint with close finishes in both the team and professional competitions. With low scoring at a premium due to the course bearing its' teeth it certainly was a case of Hartley Wintney Golf Course 1 competitors 0.

In the Professionals individual competition it was to left to Martin Adams from Swanmore Golf Centre, the 2016 Hampshire Order of Merit winner and last match of the day, to be the only Professional to break par and take first place with a one under par 70.

Following two shots back three players tied for second place with one over par 72's.

They were the current leader of the 2017 Hampshire Order of Merit Adam Hickling (Stoneham), Paul Brown (Hockley) and Mark Sawford (Portsmouth Golf Centre).

In the Team competition, played in teams of four with the two best scores to count, the team consisting of Jack Coulbert (Lee-on-the-Solent GC), John Comfort, Steve Baker and Trevor Jessett recorded a 12 under par score of 130 to win by one shot and take home the first prize of a Scotty Cameron putter each.

Team prizes went down to 8th place and the prize winners can be seen below.

1st - Jack Coulbert, John Comfort, Steve Baker, Trevor Jessett - 130
2nd - Ben Cummings, Steve Randall, Paul Wright, Chris Shaw - 131
3rd - Tom Hutchings, Ian Callaway, Tom Winder, Anthony Powell - 132

There were nearest the pin prizes on all the par 3 holes with the highlight being a Srixon Z565 Driver with fitting sponsored by Ravenscroft Motors in memory of Roger and Gloria Ravenscroft.

The winner of this fantastic prize for being nearest the pin on the 9th hole was Andy Dale.

Competition news

June 9 Hole Stableford

New members Sam Neville and Nick Thumwood took 1st & 2nd places respectively in the June 9 hole stableford. Sam was the clear winner by one point scoring 18 points with Nick, one of five players scoring 17 points, needing countback to secure the runner-up place.

Sweep places - 1. £10.50, 2. £4.50

Pre Pro-Am Shotgun Start

Thirty Teams supported the Pre Pro-Am Shotgun Start Fourball Betterball competition. Players had to contend with quite a windy Hartley Wintney course in excellent condition in readiness for the Pro-Am on Sunday. However the testing conditions made little difference to the winners Lee Poulter & Kevin Pigney who scored a superb 46 points to secure 1st place. Two teams battled it out for second place both scoring 42 points, and after countback it was Roly Newman & Paul McCluskey who took the runners up position.

Ladies news

Hayling Team

Last Wednesday, Hartley Wintney's Hayling Team beat Royal Winchester 4-1 at Petersfield to reach the Hayling Trophy Final. This will be played, at Hayling Golf Club, on Thursday, 22 June and we wish them every success.

Well done to Julia Johnson, Hayling Captain, for leading the team this far and for all the ladies who played in this and every Hayling match this year.
