Congratulations to Henrik Stenson & Matthew Fitzpatrick over the weekend, Henrik for winning the Race to Dubai and Matthew for winning the DP World Tour Championship. Although Henrik finished in 9th place it was enough to secure the title and after winning his maiden major with victory at Royal Troon and Olympic Silver Medal in Rio it sealed, in Henrik's words, "the best year in my career." And for Matthew making a birdie at the last to win by a shot will do wonders for his confidence after a disappointing performance in the Ryder Cup.
Golf at the weekend was severely hit by the weather, however the Captain's Drive-in was unhindered and new Captain's Jim Chadwick - Men, Cydney Morgan - Ladies, Keith Hammond - Seniors and Oscar Chandler - Juniors were all able to Drive-in unaffected by the weather.
Captain's Drive-in
This hugely popular event supported by 28 teams (112 golfers), the format for the competition was best two best stableford scores from the four to count on each hole. After a chilly start the sun came out which was a fitting way to welcome in the new Captain's and see out past Captain's Tony Wise and Julie Rumsby.
The competition itself was very competitive with the winning team of Duncan Syme, Mick Davies, James May and Neil Solomon scoring 100 points. In second place on 99 points was the team of Henrik Conradsen, Nimish Shah, Steve Martin and Martyn Jones. In third place, after countback, were Barry Stewart, Adrian Squibb, Chris Smith and Mike Kelly.
There was Nearest the Pin on all the par 3's and the winners were Cheryl Scott on the 3rd and 17th, Duncan Syme on the 9th and Alan Hodges on the 14th.
The Ladies section turned out in force last Wednesday to welcome new Ladies Captain
Cydney Morgan drive in to office.
Cydney split the fairway with an excellent tee shot under the pressure of the watching crowd.
The day raised a fabulous
£100 for the charity, Stepping Stones DS - thank you to
Heather for selling markers. Just to give you an indication of how valuable this sum of money is to such a small charity, £80 will buy a 1:1 therapeutic riding lesson for 4 children supporting the development of gross motor skills as well as confidence and self esteem. Well done Ladies and thank you for your support.
