It's a nice change to be writing this week's newsletter with the sun shining brightly outside and even the odd golfer playing in shirt sleeves. After what seems to have been weeks of dull and wet weather are we witnessing the early signs of spring?
Some of you that have visited the club in the last few weeks will have noticed a new smiling face in the Pro Shop. Grahame Cowlishaw has now joined us on a permanent basis. Grahame has a wealth of experience having been a Professional golfer for forty five years, he has played in the Open Championship and European Open and has won various Pro-Ams.
Grahame has been club Professional at three different golf clubs, the last of which was Farnham, where he went on to become general manager, spending a total of thirty two years at the club. He joins having recently giving up his role as secretary of the H.P.G.A for the last two years. Grahame, like Sam will be on hand to give advice on your equipment needs, golf tuition, fitting and general golfing requirements.
Saturday Pro Shop Stableford
Due to the February Stableford being cancelled last weekend, we ran a Pro shop Stableford on both days. The weather was a lot kinder than what had been expected for the players first thing on Saturday after the weather forecasters had been threatening heavy rain.
Roly Newman took full advantage to score 42 points early in the day and this was not to be beaten all day. Roly went out in a spectacular 25 points to set up his winning round.
Two shots back in second place was Phil Nevitt, playing in the worst of the conditions in the afternoon on 40 points. Third place went to Steve Shimwell who scored 39 points.
Sunday Results
The poor weather put a few people off playing Sunday, but there were some brave souls who still competed. The best score of the day was 40 points but a count back was needed to separate two players. The best of back nine was scored by Dave Parker who scored a very impressive 23points coming home. He denied John Hardcastle who had to settle for runner up spot. Third place went to Kevin Speakman on 37 points.
